Looks like something they worked on some, could've been discarded for whatever reason.

Pretty sure it’s vein quartz mined on the site. Can still see it sticking out of the bedrock in spots. I believe I have read cobble quartz is dominant on some paleo sites further south from me, but other sites in the area are usually the good stuff from Maine & NH. I assume they left this junky stuff behind and took the good stuff with them, but just guesses. I have some other interesting ones made from it I’ll post tomorrow.

I think that is about all they could do with this stuff, a finished piece IMO. Some other pieces might photo better.

Fred ur line of thought sure makes it hard on me. Instead of me only having a head full of rocks now I'm also going to have a house full of rocks. :)

It’s just my current thinking, sure wish I could get someone who knows what they are doing to take a look. The stuff I will post here all came from one uprooted tree. I’m sure there is a bunch left if you dug. At the rate you are finding cool stuff it won’t take you long to become selective. My wife has made me pare down my inside collection a few times and put some in the yard.

Seen it many times where the tree gets uprooted that sat on a quartz ledge/rock. The roots/water/frost fragments it for decades-century then it topples. Pulling up shards-bits as the sample shown.

You might be right on that but the possible burin and a bunch of scrapers and stuff of other material was with it so I don’t know. Maybe the scrapers are real and that stuff is just the ledge. I’ll post some of the other stuff if they don’t move this to geofact.

Individually of course, as a collection it gets a little blurry IMO. Found on a known cairn site also. I’d wouldn’t bet my house on it but definitely the $600 uncle
Donny’s sending me.

I pretty much just see rocks you can find anywhere.
