Took a little road trip yesterday with a buddy to hunt a tavern site we had researched. It was obvious that the site had to have been hit before due to all the broken ceramics in every hole and very few buttons or coins, but it was nice to get on some good old 18[SUP]th[/SUP] century dirt for the first time this year. I didn’t get a lot of quantity, but I got two good buttons and my first Spanish silver of the year, which keeps my streak of at least one Spanish silver a year alive at (9) years in a row now.

Here are the buttons. I had never found a heart button before in 30+ years and I've found two already this year

Whoever hunted this place before must have took all the coppers and left all the spoon parts :laughing7:

Here are my keepers including an out of place V nickel

And here is a sampling of the kind of ceramics you will find on a late 18th - early 19h century site in Pennsylvania or Maryland.

Thanks for looking and good luck

In that case the ticks have some catching up to do. I have only ever pulled two ticks out of my hide, but I've found 20 pieces of cut Spanish silver. That's 10 cut Spanish for every tick, not a bad ratio :laughing7:

Thanks. It was a fun challenge to pull good targets out of that iron bed. My buddy only got a button and a broken half real, so I feel like I did pretty well under the circumstances.

That had to be a great feeling unearthing that cut Spanish! Made the research and travel pay off big time. The buttons are interesting as well and of course no good hunt is complete without some old spoons! Congrats

Thanks Thad. The cut piece was so black when I located it in the dirt pile that it took me half a nanosecond to realize what it was :laughing7: Last time I was at this place I only dug two tombac buttons before we had to cut the hunt short, so I was glad to get buttons with designs this time. And at least the spoon pieces were the pewter variety which is always a good sign.

I would be happy to find a cut cob, but I'm not holding my breath on that happening any time soon :laughing7:

Thank you Lenmac. I was happy that both buttons I found had interesting patterns.

Thanks Art, It was also a first for me. I was happy that both circa 1790 buttons had nice designs.
Congrats on keeping your Spanish streak alive.--JB
Thanks JB. Nice to check off another year with plenty of time left to find more

Thanks Tommy. The Spanish has a sort of mottled surface finish. Tough to get a nice picture. Here is a little better Pic. I figure it was cut from a 1732 2R Pistareen.
