Ive been looking to find this maker with a smiler watch but never found much out. I know the case is silver and made in 1798 by a silversmith by the name of John Wintle. Now ive been told that the movement is older than the case. If anyone knows anything about the value of this watch i would love to hear. Thanks! The movement was made by John Stoakes of London - 1750 to 1775.

Is it in running order?

luke_00... You only need to start one or two Threads concerning this pocket watch! By having 5 different Threads going at the same time about it, it confuses everyone including yourself.

Do you mean James Wintle and not John Wintle? If so, then if the pocket watch case was made in 1798, it was likely made by George Wintle who was James Wintle's dad.
