just stay with the stock coil for now as you learn the machine. The machine with a stock coil kicks behind.

I actually have a silver umax and am pretty accustomed to the tesoro style of detecting I'm just wondering what extra coils someone would need doing coinshooting and jewelry hunting

The smaller 5.75 coils are great in trashy areas for that kind of hunting.

5.75 concentric if your soil isn't mineralized. 5.75 Widescan (DD) coil if your area is mineralized.

I would go with the Widescan in that type soil.

I have found coins and silver and gold jewelry with the standard coil.
Great for all around hunting.

I have found coins and silver and gold jewelry with the 11" DD coil.
One 14k gold ring was found in a large area while swinging way too fast and literally running around this site looking for just one great target before I left.
I still believe the speed of the Vaq and the large scanning field on the coil was the reason I found it.
Paid for the coil and then some with that ring.

The large DD is great for hunting big wide open areas.

I have found coins and silver and gold jewelry with the 5.75" concentric.
Pop tops are not an issue with this one, depth is great and perfect for hunting in trashy areas.

In mineralized soil the DD version, in good soil the concentric is what I prefer.

i have heard good things about the 5x10 coil. if i choose another coil for my vaq, will more than likely be that one.

I'm thinking that because the 5x10 comes on the lobo that it would be more sensitive and hit harder on gold.

I have used the 5x10 on the Tejon and it seemed very "precise" is how i would describe it. Deep target signals werent as loud ofcourse but still there. Still had the power to hit 8" coins very solid. Even had no problems hitting a 10" quarter in a test garden. I would expect similar results from the Vaquero.

from what i have read, the 5x10 tesoro and the nel 9.5x5.5 sharpshooter performance is the same. people just like the look of the nel coil better. which i do agree with. but i will buy the tesoro one to give them the business and keep everything the same make.

For coin and jewelry I would keep the stock concentric coil on. It's the best all around coil.

Would the 5x10 be good in mineralized soils like n.c red clay?

im not an expert but, what i had read it should be. just do the research. maybe call tesoro themselves and ask. no one would know better than them. it is a toll free number and they are very informative too. if they are busy, the lady will say someone will call you back. and the one time i called them to ask about something. got the call back within a half hour. they are good about that.

I like my 5.75 concentric for weaving in around trashy old house sites.
