I decided to forgo the early AM hunt today and hit the beach this evening about 2 hours before low tide. Conditions didn't look that great (they haven't really for a while now) but gold is still showing up fairly regularly (I got a nice gold cross the other day) so I headed on out. I planned on this one being a nice long walk as I wanted to cover some more ground and play with the GPS features on the new CTX 3030. Still not sure how to get the exact distance covered (need to play with it some more) but I was out there for 3 hours 22 minutes and I know the straight line distance was 1.3 miles each way (2.6 total). That would be fine but I'm willing to bet I added at least another mile or more with all the gridding and backtracking.
Targets were pretty sparse at first but eventually I got into a few good spots with some coins and there was very little trash to be found, no complaints on that here!. The CTX is GREAT in the beach mode at finding small deep targets, some of those pennys were at 10 inches or more!
A couple of other looters were out there tonight looking for yellow too. The "Fast Man" had a nice chunky looking men's nugget ring with ice and another was found by a different hunter there tonight too. The ring showed up as a 12.18 on the TID and was only about 4 inches down, got it on the first scoop. 14K, 5 grams and has 10 really nice looking princess cut diamonds in a channel setting, pretty sweet! The titanium showed up on the return leg, sounded good and looked nice in the sand but pretty obvious what this one was once I picked it up. Overall a REALLY good hunt and as I get more and more comfortable with the CTX and its features, I'm really glad I bought one. Special shout out to Ron at "The Gold Digger Metal Detectors"! Thanks for the great deal on the detector and accessories Ron! It's starting to pay for itself already! Hope to see you in Va Beach this year!
Thanks for reading and looking everyone! Enjoy the pictures! Those sunglasses look like "cop glasses"...Hmmmm OCCOP, Have you been looting Va Beach? If ya need some new cop glasses buddy they are yours!
