image.jpg Quick hunt after work today ended up being pretty good. Walked away with a few buttons, a nice decorative shoe buckle and my first state copper, 1788 Vermont with excellent detail.

By the location of the letter V it is one of three varieties, RR 24, 25 or 26. Odds are it is the Ryder 25, but need photo of reverse to say which one for sure. 1788 Vermont Copper - Ryder 25

Congrats! Right now that is about the only find that really makes me green with envy. But I'm genuinely happy for you. Would love to see more pics as others have suggested.
Welcome (back?) to Tnet.

I have never cleaned a copper coin before, worried I'll ruin it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

i heat up peroxide in the microwave then drop the coin in for a few minutes, the crud bubbles off, then i use a brillo pad a nd gently rub to get some detail, and finallyi use metal polish to polish the details, works great on toasted coppers
