VERY INTERESTING REIN GUIDE, BIRD, SNAKE OR DRAGON? AND A FEW COINS!! INFO NEEDED!!

Howdy all. Went out for a swing with my brother yesterday, way overdue. Two old home sites from the 1875 map. The Rein guide is very interesting. Appears to be a hybrid between a snake and a bird? Any info is appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Cool relic i dont think they are Rein guides i have found many and think they are hitching post rings.

Thanks jonnyblaze. I have found several also that are not so decretive. There was a post on here that referred to then as rein guides and had pictures, http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/280524-wagon-rein-guide.html, but I could see them as hitching post ring also.

I believe also they could be a wagon reign guide..But i cant see those thick heavy brass relics hanging from a Horses head!

The picture that CannonballGuy posted is how they were used, it's a rein turret and a very nice one at that. Dug the plain loop type many times but never one like yours, congrats.

They don't attach on the head but half way down the back of the heavy horse.
