I found this rock in my back yard in central NJ. Super smooth with a side that has a slight flat spot but pretty much egg shaped. 2 9/16" long by 1 5/8" thick, 6" circumference. Weighs just over 7 1/2 oz. Dark, not a solid color, with striations, thin lighter bands. Would be great to darn socks with but I doubt anyone does that anymore.

Welcome to the forum aclarke3, Funny enough people still do use darning stones, my mom has a couple. What you have is what I'd call a river cobble possibly a fine granite like metamorphic stone.
