That is a very unusual find....looks like someone's finger was cut off...Strange but fantastic. Yes take a lot of photo's for I doubt will find another one like that.

Now that is very cool! I seen where a guy found one that a carrot had grown through a wedding band.

Grip....If there are initials, they must be inside the band.....and he's definately NOT going destroy it to remove it from the root. The owner would have to be 90....so doubt they are alive.

I am not sure How Handy you are with wood? But IF it were me I would let the wood dry and then carve a finger out of the root.
IF your not that skilled. Try and find someone that is a carver and I am sure he will have a blast doing it!
