Hey guys,

While I typically target early colonial and pre 1830s military sites, every now and then I get lucky with a random general service or bullet drop. Honestly I've dug more British pewters than I have 2 piece confederate buttons based on the sites I target and how pounded these well known camps are in the low country. Working off an old plat map, I was on a blind scout into the woods that I invited Stef45 on. I had a pretty good idea where the home site should be but the area fell within 100 or so acres. I told him to have low expectations, as we set off onto the permission. I remember saying...well if all else fails we can always hit the coast :laughing7: Within 10 minutes of walking I planted us solidly on the remnants of an old trench/fighting position (completely by accident) overlooking the water. The area was only about 30x30ft, but was loaded with targets. First up was small concentration of union general service buttons, all within 10' of each other.

After spreading out on the perimeter, I got another 2 cuffs - an pre 1850s navy cuff as well as an infantry eagle.

Directly behind the union concentration, I starting digging loads of camp lead. Target after target, small lead chunks with no iron patch anywhere in sight. Given the proximity of the targets, I'm guessing it was a small confederate outpost...either overrun or re-occupied by the union later as not a single fired bullet was dug. Here's the confederate goodies- pair of SC militia coat buttons- W Horstmann & Sons and a Smith & Co.

This one was also a nice surprise and a first for me - southern manufacture artillery coat with iron back.

Found 3 of the same flower buttons in different states of preservation.

Pair of bullets - enfield with 6 on base and a solid 3 ringer

A nice 1851 half dime was just icing on the cake.

Nicest surface find was this decorative pipe bowl 1850s style.

All and all a pretty incredible hunt on a blind scout - thanks for looking and good luck digging this week!
