Hey JT...Just read in another post you hadn't found a ring yet.? Funny how this all works isn't it?? I have a whole box full of rings but I trade them all for the coins you've dug in the past week!? So congratulations on breaking the 1900 barrier, and oh one more thing.....YOU DAWG!!!

Re: WAHOO!! Got out of the 1900's tonight!

WELL Kansas,

The short version would be that i was actually sweeping too slow with my machine and was only finding targets down to 2 or 3 inches. So I was told to take a quarter and bury it at five inches and practice swinging on it to see what swing speed produced the best signal. Once i did that i started to find deeper targets because by swinging too slow the deep targets do not produce a "sudden" enough signal for the machine to detect only the shallow targets will because they are in effect larger to the coil because they are closer to it.

Hope this helps you too.

Questions are welcome

1800's.....1900's......LIVE IN THE NOW.......... ;) :D ;D

Sounds like you got some good advice there. It's always a good idea to make a "testbed" and learn there than wonder it you missed some coins in previous hunts

Great job, JT. I love the bell. Those indians get pretty corroded. I got one last week that just won't come clean. What kind of detector and what kind of site??

Funny how we used to be in a rush to see what the future had in store and now we have a hobby that we cant wait to find what the past has left us.

Floater....That is so deep. What a great quote.

Re: WAHOO!! Got out of the 1900's tonight!

Thank you all.

I use a DFX and the tips he gave were rather basic and detector specific as far as settings go but i am a beginner so it helped me out alot. I ws also sweeping way too slow and I didnt think that was possible but it is.

The site I got the items from is a combo of my yard (house built in 1758) and my neighbors yard (site of old church very very old & torn down 25-30 yrs ago) I am lucky to have a home that is so old. The beams still have bark on them in spots....very cool.

I should post a pic of all the finds i have made here. I have only had my DFX about a month I got a Prizm Iv in march that got me hooked and So I sold some "old hobby" stuff on ebay to finance the DFX. I am really having a ball and I owe alot to you folks I have learned at least one thing from most of you.

Re: WAHOO!! Got out of the 1900's tonight!

Here is what i could fit on my scanner. there is more but these are some of my favorites. All of these were found within 100 feet of my house and most much closer. Sunday night i found the old privy site also. I am saving that for a weekend excavation.

Thanks

JT
