Just had a stroll in the local woods. Only digging high pitched signals, that way avoiding a lot of pain. Was pleased to find a pound coin, worth finding. Then no more than a few inches down, this. A lovely gold cuff link, both parts in the same hole. No hall mark, but a nice clear makers mark SH. Not sure of the age, but looks hand made. Robert.

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much (ok maybe one punch in the face) over not finding early gold... it is tough! I can't imagine how many sites I've hunted and how many old targets I've dug the last 15 years and all I have to show for it is 3 gold items. A gold band that dates early 1900s, ones that dates 1802, and a Victorian period snake ring. The last I dug is probably near a decade ago. I'm sure it will happen for you, but could be a while.... could be next week too, you know how it goes.

Yeah it's just one of those things I'd love to knock off the list. I care zero about modern gold. But a find like a snake ring or these amazing links would put me over the moon. It's funny when I look at my list of wants and I realize how many things I have not found. And I feel like I've found a hell of a lot of stuff in just a few years. I'll keep on digging my friend

Yeah I've far surpassed what I ever imagined I'd find, but it's a never ending list.

Excellent find!! I hope you can figure out a date on it or at least a ballpark.
Congrats. Gold is always a fantastic find however it shows up.

I'm late to this party, but let me echo the sentiments previously expressed. Engraved gold cufflinks from the 18th century--you've got to be kidding!! I can't imagine a nicer relic find. Congratulations.

Wow! Sweet links! I found a half reale with a counterstamp that looks somewhat similar a number of years back. I've never been able to identify the mark. I hope you have better luck with your hallmark.

His Makers Mark has the wrong shaped cartouche & a 'dot' between S & H, so is not a match.

Cheers Cru, the devil is in the detail. may never get a full id.Robert.

Its possible, but would take the right contact/specialist, not one I have in my little black book.

Super find Rob:thumbsup: you are giving me the urge to get out again :laughing7: Are you sure the mark is not S&R, the bottom of the second letter looks like it kicks out, like a R.:icon_scratch:

Hello Colin, yep I can see what you mean , to be honest I don't know. If you can get here for 19.00 that's when the rain is forcast to stop. Which coincides nicely with the start of emerdale and later corrie on the tv. So I will be walking up to the wood. A nice Sam Smith's pub on the way back, for a pint of stout. The Deus as opened up a lot of what were very trashy sites for me.Robert.
