economic sanctions are a fact of life.

our own u.s. government uses this lever often with varying

degrees of effect.

why are we detectorists so dam slow in getting something set up

to recognize who are the BAD GUYS out there.

if a town county or state has crummy laws against detectoring.

SURE, U CAN COMPLAIN. but in most cases nothing will be done.

as treasure hunting gains in popularity there are more of us then ever.

if we can get an accurite list of who the worst offenders are.

then we can as detectorists AVOID PATRONIZING OUR CRITCS.

u would be oh so surprised to find out how quick attitudes can change

when the old money flow gets interrupted.

i will start this by my example of yearly summer vacation.

i live in illinois. when it gets hot aroound summertime its nice to visit

the northwoods. usually this would mean wisconsin.

except that they have a crummy attitude about detectoring.

so i and all my money always go to u.p. of michigan.

yes its slightly further. but they let u detect in state parks there.

so i spend as little as possible in wisco. they stink.

nice friendly michigan.

i spent over 900 dollars in 5 days.almost all in mich.

i also went the extra mile and wrote the mich dept of tourism

thanking them for being metal detecting friendly.

sent a complain letter to wisconsin letting them know

that they had missed out on revenue.

one person doing this means little. many gets noticed.

then laws can get changed. ;D

I write letters to different states to let them know about their laws on metal detecting all the time. When they realize they could be losing money, they listen. But most people are lazy and let the other guy do it as they think it is no skin off their nose.

In some states the liberals rule. They think that public land means the governments land, not the peoples land. That is one of the big problems. They rule the lands in a controll freak manor. Frank

Hi everyone, this is Frank Pandozzi, Executive Producer and host of Exploring Historys Treasures, metal detecting, TV series. I'd like to offer, from my experience, my 2-cents on this subject.

The only way to stop the unnecessary taking of our lands by our government, and to stop the beauracrats from harassing us with law after law that impedes our right to enjoy our hobby, is by creating a funded organization with the idea of hiring lobbyists for each State to defend us. I have been on the chopping block for years because of my TV series. Archaeologists and beauracrats have thrown every law imaginable at me to try and kill my show. The only way I have won, as well as many others I know across the country who have been hassled, is by hiring attorneys to fend off the beasts.

A few years ago, with the help of another, we started an organization such as the one mentioned above. Unfortunately, I had to shut it down because of a lack of interest from the complaining public. We charged a small, yearly fee to help pay for lobbyists. We also had lobbyists in a few States ready to step into some problematic areas and help out. You see, many complain, but few are willing to step forward. This country, as much as I love it, is becoming a country hard on rhetoric, and soft on action. Many people want something for nothing, or are not willing to put their money, or there actions where their hearts are. Tough times means tough actions. Now I ask you all. If you want this problem that corrodes our hobby fixed, then how many of you have the colones to do something about it?

Thanks,
Frank

Ho right you are, I guess that's why the government wants to be a socialist one, They want us to work all day, give them our money, then go home to only drink vodka. Who does this sound like, oh yeah you would need permits to go on the peoples land.

Find out WHY they are against detectorists and work on that; maybe change their perception. However, you hit em in the pocketbook and they definitely understand that. Money talks, but loss of money practically screams. Frank, it's 'cajones', not 'colones', but I got it. Thanks for the link to that website, pretty cool.

So much for spell checker re: my colones, I mean cohones, cajones, BALLS.

They are against detectorists because we are a threat to them, especially to the Archaeologists. Arkies have a lot of say in what lands our government take. Arkies have a large say in laws that stop us from enjoying the hobby. Arkies do not like the fact that we can go out and dig up artifacts. They have very little funding to do what we do. Most Arkies are in Academia as college professors or researchers, museum personal and never get the chance to go on a dig. They are jealous creatures.
