I was able to slip out over the weekend for a bit of hunting, it aint like the North, but it's better than a stick in the eye.

Saturday:
I went after lunch to do a bit of swinging. Of course, the Deus found a bunch of wheat cents, eight to be exact. Just before it was time to head home, a beat up OD Nickel got under the coil. As soon as I saw it, I smiled and thought of our hero.

Sunday:
Todd Lipe invited me to go on one of his "guaranteed to find silver coins" hunts. I am such a sucker, I fall for this trick every time. We hit a couple of spots, one of them yielded some decent finds. I was able to locate:
- 2 flat buttons. One is HUGE! Neither has a loop.
- 8 wheat cents.
- Play money
- Imperial Japanese 50 sen! Made between 1928-1938, 4.95 grams of .720 silver. Unfortunately, I hit the coin during extraction. I cleaned the coin with baking soda, as it was a bit stained. I figure that a returning WWII soldier brought it home with him as a souvenir... or a Jap spy dropped it, whilst trying to steal BBQ secrets in NC!

YTD silver coins: 63.

Thanks for looking, and best of luck on your hunts!

Cool Jap coin. I see it has the chrysanthemum flower on one side which was there country's flower. Supposedly all bring back rifles of WW II had to have this flower ground off of the rifles receiver. Nice finds.

Interesting, I'd thought it was a lotus, but after doing some research you are pretty much on the mark although it is not their official national flower.

The Imperial Seal of Japan, also called the Chrysanthemum Seal or Chrysanthemum Flower Seal or Imperial chrysanthemum emblem, was used by the Emperor and members of the Japanese imperial family.

I would not have thought returning Japanese soldiers after the unconditional surrender would have been allowed to retain any rifles or weapons.

Anyway, very nice coin! A bit heartbreaking to have hit that one. That's a big silver coin

My weekend:
Saturday - 2 kids birthday parties in Brooklyn followed by a wedding Ironically one of the parties was in a park and two guys detected right next to me while I played pin-the -Tail-on-the-donkey.
Sunday - babysat my nieces in a cramped apartment.

Hours detected= 0

Anyway, nice hunting. I like the buttons and OD. It was also very nice of Todd to invite you.

Pin the tail on the donkey sounds like FUN!. Did you do well?

(Sorry buddy, I just couldn't resist)

Todd Lipe is a good guy, he has poor taste in hunting buddies, but other than that, he is a good guy!
