Looks like a fragment of something cast from maybe bronze, just guessing.

It really looks like part of a corner of a heavy cast metal something - industrial part of some kind ?

Looks like a metallic "melt" to me. May be in the brass/bronze class. Only a test will give you the correct answer.

Why would you believe it to be a rock or mineral, as your post title suggests? All signs indicate part of a casting. Color, shape, hole. All suggest a man made object. Brass or bronze. Probably bronze. Poor casting at that, but I do know bronze artists who occasionally have porous looking results.

Time for more coffee.

Galena, showing some association with Barite (the white stuff). Galena is a main source of Lead ore. Lead has been mined all over the state of Missouri in its natural form, which is in combination with galena, copper, and small traces of silver. In the old days Base bars of this natural lead ore were commonly produced for ease of transportation to a refining facility. This looks like a chunk of one of those base bars to me.

Now that I think on it, that hunk of metal looks mighty familiar.
