I found this on answers.com - I'd never heard of it either...

What is a penny with the words uncirculated denver on one side with a crest and us mint treasury worth?
Answer:

This is a token that is included in the Uncirculated Mint Sets issued by the U.S. Mint. It has little or no collector value -- you may be able to find them in a dealer's miscellaneous bin for 25 cents or less.

Thanks. I just wonder who would take this out of a collector set

They have no collector value. In mint sets, a token denotes the issuing mint (besides the actual mintmark on the coins themselves). In some years, the token is the same composition as the cent. In other years, plastic discs serve as the mint token.

I've begun carding the tokens and consigning them at a local auction with other low-grade coins. Unknowing bidders compete against others to earn the right to win the trash. The highest I've realized with the mint tokens (4 of each mint) lot is $17. Literally, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
