Ok Im going crazy i got to get back in the water, i hunt a fresh water lake and right now the water temp is right around 43 degrees, i have a long sleeve shorty thats 3 mm and a farmer john thats 3mm and 3mm boots, i bought this gear last year and never got a chance to try it out, does anybody know if that will be warm enough for 43 degree water??? Im only going chest deep, im so desperate i might tape hand warmers all over then put on the wet suit............ any input is welcomed thanks!

I have a full 3.5mm wetsuit + boots and I'm going to bet no/you wont last long at 43. But your tolerance may be greater than mine.

Everyone's comfort level is different, try it and see. I have been in 55 degree water with 3mm and been plenty warm enough.

Does your farmer john have both top and bottoms or is it just the overalls...? Most farmer johns had tops and bottom , a 3mm suit would give you 6mm on your body trunk when wearing both...

What size do you wear? I have at least 4 spare wet suits I'm going to sell...

If you go in and start squealing like a girl, it's not enough.

I didn't know water got that cold.......:laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

BVI Weather

The British Virgin Islands are blessed with cool trade winds and warm blue water. Our average daily temps are 80 – 86 F. At night, the temperature drops about 10 degrees. For the water lovers, January water temp is 76, March gets you 80, and it’s 83 in July. Late August can be around 85 F

The "hand warmers" will not work when they get wet. NOT recommended to use under wet suits.

Try the water...Two of my friends detect in 37F water with 6mil wet suit, gloves and booties. They can last 2-3 hours with air temp in the mid 30sF. You will know soon enough if it is too cold for you. Don't stay too long in the water if you begin to feel numbness in your fingers or toes.

You are lucky to get waders that will fit you! It seems that all of the dumb a$& makers of waders that I have found, make men's waders based on shoe/boot size. Well, I should be wearing size 16EEEE but am still wearing my' 15EEE shoes and boots due to the costs for new ones. Try getting a pair of waders for those shoe/boot sizes! I am 6' 1" tall and the last pair of waders that I tried on were sized for size 14 boots and I could fold the bib portion over the top of my' head. Needless to say, you can't wade or even walk when you can't see because of the bib on the waders!

The only option for this Florida boy is a dry suit with thermal underwear if the water is below 67F.

Dry duit... without air tank? buoyancy problem? Almost impossible!

He said he is freshwater hunting in a lake. OP said only going chest deep, not diving.

A dry suit would keep one warm, and dry. No buoyancy problem here.

I am an experience diver. Your don't need a wet suit, you need a dry suit!
A 3mm wet suit is what you wear in 75 degree water!

  • Drysuit only, wetsuit , getting out of the water on a windy cold day, which is everyday at the beach during the winter, not for me.. drysuit, dry gloves 32 degree waters... the only thing that stops me then is ice....

then I got to a lighter drysuit for 50 to 60..

My buddy Scott does the same, he was out last Sunday with me, in a wetsuit, 7mm .WT 32.7, I don't know how you guys do it...he does use Polar Paws but with the wetsuit..crazy..

Some people just deal with it better...
