Well I went back for round 2, "dove" back in the dumpster and really hit it big today!!! I have just been so excited all day and now I will share my enjoyment with ya'll. I think I found everything but the kitchen sink in the dumpster. I found boy scout canteen, patches, buttons, more old pictures, lots of costume jewlry, a 10 kt gold ring, a 14kt saftey pin, 2 14kt gold watches, a seiko watch,a lot of keys including about 75 skeleton keys , a bunch of lighters (Zippo), old bottles, a bunch of silver ware, and to top it all off I was going through 1 bag with a lot of envelopes and 1 felt bulky so I riped it open and theres a little red pouch and inside low ad behold three SILVER coins (1898 Morgan, 1922 Peace, and 1964 Kennedy half) "Oh my God" all this and I didn't swing my detector at all. I know I am leaving out so much other stuff but there is just too much to mention.

Someone probably died, and the house is being emptied. This happens all the time, where the family just wants to empty the house, so they can sell it. Idiots. If they would just sort through ALL the "treasures", they would find all sorts of goodies.

I love dumpster diving!! Way to go!!

Man, talking about not respecting ones memories and life and just throwing it all away is nothing short of INSANE!! At least you were there to pick up the pieces so the person can be remembered in some way. These people must want to pretend as thought they did not exist or hated them beyond belief.
Way to go!!!!!

Wow and wow! Unbelieveable!

I see something familiar from my childhood.....in photo #2194 in amongst all the jewelry, I see 3 Sunday School pins. We used to get a pin for every year we had perfect attendance. On them they said "1st year" "2nd year", "3rd year", etc. When you earned a new pin you added it to the bottom of the chain. I hardly ever got such a pin because we spent so many Sunday's at camp....but the deacon's kids always had big long pins on the award Sunday. It took me a few minutes, but I remember it was called "Rally Day".

As to why would they throw all this stuff away.....there could be a number of reasons. But perhaps it was that they simply took all the boxes of their Gram's "memorabilia" and simply tossed them because it was too much to go through everything. Maybe they all knew for years what a "pack rat" the old lady was and no one had the time to do the job.

Sad maybe, but my Aunt lived with her mother for the last years of Gram's life. Then she was faced with the daunting task of going through everything and trying to decide who might want what. She hated to throw anything away, but after months simply didn't know what she should do with the rest. Her daughter finally came to visit. She ordered a dumpster and helped with the rest of the "treasures".

Great finds! Did you happen to ask them why they are throwing all that stuff away? It's a shame they are doing that, they much not have respected that person very much. Good job in saving all that history!!!

As a kid we used to go around and dig through the trash all the time and find good stuff. The best find for us was a cigar box with some old cigars in it but when we took them out there was a piece of cardboard lining the bottom of the box and we found $96 in cash! One man's trash is quite often another man's treasure.

People have no clue what they throw away.

Congrats on such great finds.

Dang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like you hit pay dirt.
It is amazing all the things that people throw away. Most of the time in such a big hurry to get rid of stuff they don't even care to look at what they have right before their own very nose.
I would go back till I covered every square inch of that dumpster.

Unbelievable! I just can't see throwing all this stuff away, some of it is worth some $$. Looking at some of the items are memories to me. You got yourself a goldmine there, I wish I could find a dumpster like that. ;D
