I've learned through research and personal experience that India is notorious for not marking their precious metal objects. A few times I've found Indian jewelry simply marked "silver" without any indication of the metal's purity, and most annoyingly sometimes artifacts that were made of silver - and even gold that had no purity stamps and no mention of their precious metal content what so ever. Acid testing and research revealed Indian silver purity was usually between 80%-90% and gold could be as low as 9K for some pieces. Acid testing should clear up your curiosity. Good luck!

It used to be that the Indian standard for gold jewelry was 22k, and they laughed at our 14k - 40 years of working with Indian engineers.

However, I could see that greed and consumption may have changed that some.

Haha all my "INDIA" marked rings so far have been obviously anodized aluminum, would be a big surprise to me if any I found were gold, still they are always very light weight this is key to thier identify ! Guess I will definitely keep hoping for one that is worth more than 1/4 of a cent or so :happysmiley:
