Ferrite or what I know is Ferrite is a ceramic type material made of compressed Iron and Zinc powder or Iron and Magnesium powder with Iron being in the majority. I get mine out of a lot transformers for it is often used in electrical equipment as cores to wind copper around. Now Ferrite is magnetic so it goes as shreddable steel. I don't ever ask the Weighmaster at the yard if they take ferrite although it looks simply like ceramic pieces. I simply dump it on out with the rest of the steel at the yard. If they do try to complain to you about bringing it in tell them to check it with a magnet. That's the test for it passing as steel, not what it looks like. Regards, Chris Hyder.
