So it's my fault you weren't smart enough to post this thread in the forum that was titled EXACTLY the same as your thread title.
I'm amazed. Just amazed. Wow.

What is the wording on the shield? I'm not able to enlarge it with clarity. OK, I did get it to enlarge ... "United we stand divided we fall". "all for one, one for all". Is that it? Then I agree with the previous call of it being a political watch fob. Unique too, because it is the first one that I've seen that looks like it fits around a pocket watch. Although I can't see how a pocket watch would stay snapped into the enclosure.

...the opening on the fob is for a photograph... the political candidate, not the watch...{lol}.

Correct you are! It makes more sense as a photo opening. I guess what looks like a slot for a watch stem had something to do with the photo. Possibly a chimney on a cabin? Or maybe it was a photo of a pocket watch with some catchy political slogan on the face.

A 1943 war nickel. Nice find, even though it is in rough shape. At least it has 0.0563 troy ounces of silver or thereabouts. You didn't put those gouges on it when digging did you? LOL
