image.jpg this was found at a shared campsite for both Rebs and yanks. Along with the enfield and round ball I found what looks like a broken off finial. Any ideas what it was used for?

My best guess would be a flag staff finial.

Otherwise it could be from a number of other applications, hilt of a sword, furniture, etc.

Here's an acorn flag staff finial.

Pencil....? Ha...jk...I had no idea, but it appears AU Seeker is all over it...cool post, always love seeing stuff from CW sites..thx for sharing...ddf

I would lean toward furniture piece, as I have found a few similar to that I've found over the years. Things like that sometimes we never really know 100% for sure. I must have bags and bags of things I have no clue what they come from. I just put them in a box and maybe someday I'll find out more info and once in a blue moon I'll get a surprise when I stumble upon the identity of what it is.

I see it as a decorative part of a lamp from the 1920's. See the pic below I think it's just a fancier piece than the one I circled.

NICE ENFEILD . I FOUND A SIMILAR TOPPER LIKE THAT NEAR A CIVIL WAR SITE.

I'm leaning towards Loco-Digger's opinion. I have numerous pieces like the one you have recovered.
It may not have anything to do with the Civil War period. Does it have any internal threads at the base? Congrats on the Enfield and the round ball.

No, if you look closely its broken off- no threads. Also its has no holes through it. I'm thinking more of a fireplace poker handle but its made out of brass/copper. This site was at best a sharecropper site. Seems to be a "classy " piece you would not expect to find.

I find similar in the UK, I always thought some kind of furniture finial. (I'm assuming hollow brass)
