What is this latch/buckle

I found this in a confederate camp site. The one obviously is a knife tip. But the latch or buckle not sure. It's thick, Iron and I'm not sure what exactly it would have belonged to image.jpeg

It appears to be a link from a machinery chain-belt called a roller-link chain. Compare it with the photos below.
