Hi I am Valerie and I live in San Manuel Az. I've had little blue stones in an old coffee can for years. I dug them out and washed them and finally decided to break one open. Imagine my surprise when what I assumed to be Azurite broke open and looked just like a little geode. can you plz tell me if azurite often occurs like this?

Azurite nodules, hrmm. Yep they can appear just like that but no its not common for them to geode. Usually they are solid and show external crystal structures. Whats curious to me is they appear to have a high silicate content so I'll be interested to see what others think.

if you have a magnifier app on your phone, or can take a pic through a loupe, a close up of the crystal habit would be definitive. The crystal habits of quartz/silica and azurite are vastly different. If it's quartz, it was externally dyed which isn't likely. I'm inclined to say you have yourself some azurite geodes which is probably a rarity.
