What does "Midwestern" sound like?

hammered

sort of like a lower upper midwestern :laughing7:

That explains a lot :laughing7:. Just wait until you come over here, it's even more confusing :tongue3:. Norfolk compared to west country, Mancunian compared to southern scouse, it goes on, but I will confess, I always thought there was just a southern or northern American accent, with a few variations.

hammered

Been there (well not Ankh-Morpork, been a while since me and Terry hung out in discworld) and will be back, but no problem after 5 pints we all sound the same :laughing7:

Next time I see you in the "Broken/Mended Drum" I will buy You a pint :laughing7:. Terry is a great guy and will probably have a half with us

Ian

I'll take ya up on that cause I was tired of Biers and Igors crazy drinks :icon_thumright:

Don't dith igor'th or irgorina'th, they really believe in recycling :laughing7:, sorry I'm getting into the Discworld mentality again :tongue3:, Glad your read the same stuff mate :icon_thumleft:

I've lived in the midwest all my life and only got 5% midwestern? They must grade this test on the left coast somewhere.

Hammered asked: What does "Midwestern" sound like?

I'm thirsty. I'm going to either buy a bottle of "pop" (soda or Coke) to quench it or I'm going to get a drink of water at the "bubbler" (drinking fountain or water cooler)
pop and bubbler are midwestern. (looks like you are 30% Yank! :icon_thumleft: ;D )

AU24, regional vernacular is more about customs, dress or architecture etc. in different regions of the country more than language. Regional dialects is more what this little quiz was about. You have to admit that, in the North "most" people say "you all"
in the South most say "y'all"
Both are speaking English but they are using the dialect from their particular part of the country. It would be fair to say someone speaks more Yank English than Southern if they said "you all" don't you think? I know we all hate to be pigeonholed but that's just a fact of life.

The only issue with any spell-check program, is they don't always correct the word with the same sound but with a different spelling and meaning...such as wear, ware and where...

The TN's program doesn't even check for improper punctuation...

I would suspect that the Spal-Czek will be upgraded in the near future...
