I just opened an account at my local BofA. Taught the individual's daughter who orders coins so I think I can pretty much order what I want.

I have a standing order of 2 boxes of halves per week, but was thinking about ordering a box of large dollars--just to see if I can cull any silver from Ike's (or anything else).

If you could order what you "pleased," what would be your advice? Don't want to wear out my welcome.

I have been really enjoying pennies. No silver but my 8yo and I compete to see who gets the most wheats. We do Nickles too. Both are just for fun really but still neat to find the old ones.

If they know how to order large dollars and let you, take em. They sell for a slight premium on feebay. Alot of banks I have dealt with said they could order large dollars only to find out that they really could just get "golden" dollars. Good luck and HH.

I was talking to a very knowledgable coin dealer who has been in the business for many years. I asked him if Morgan and Peace Dollars were in circulation in my lifetime. He said that that they were very uncommon in New England, but were used in the Casinos in Nevada in the 60's. He went on to say that you could easily find them in banks in Texas, especially near the border into the 70's.
So if I lived in Texas I would at least one time give it a shot and go for the big dollars. Then again your last boxes were pretty good, so maybe you should order more halves.

I'd order halves. If they can order large dollars, give it a try. But make sure they can really order large dollars, a lot of banks will think you just mean dollar coins. Ask them for big dollars, ike sized coins.

go for the ikes!!! i can not get ahold of them puppies! i feel lucky to find a bank that may have one!!! every coin is a keeper...and you can get more than face value at most coin dealers...thus amking u more money to use for half searching if u want, or u could stick w/ ikes and keep selling them, and make like 3-5x the amount of money u started with! :laughing9: good luck, and happy hunting!

Do it, but be sure that they are indeed "large" dollars. Large dollars will come bagged as they don't have the facilities to roll and box such large coins. If you end up with small dollars, don't refuse them. There are errors to go through (smooth edge dollars, Wide-Rim/Near-Date SBA, low mintage years, etc).
