What size is the majority of your gold?

Hello All!

I think I have come up with my best idea yet for gold concentration. Before I make it I am trying to figure out what size to make the classifier.

What size is the majority of your gold? What mesh or micron size?

What size would you call a picker? 1/8"? 1/4"?

What I'm getting at is that I want the rare ??? mesh size nugget/picker/can be detected with a detector to not enter the system. If It can be detected with a decent metal detector I don't want it to enter the system.

You will understand when you see it! Very inexpensive, easy to make, light, easy to transport, can be dredged and/or shoveled into, and will lose little to no gold. Water can also be recirculated for use where there is no water.

That's some fine brain work indeed Nick . I've done the smelting and leaching
stuff myself , might do some more one day . But for now I chose to use that
time in the field hunt'n gold I can see . That is what I really enjoy doing
anyhow . For me ; I just dont get much joy going after the invisible stuff .
Not to mention when I went to the trouble to pour a couple of small bars
( both a few grains short of an ounce ) that I guaranteed to be 99.9 % it
did not matter to my buyers . Both of them said with me not being a known
licensed refiner they would only pay what they pay for my cleaned raw stuff .
Which is fine by me really . They know the level of purity Al.-Ga. gold
carries and pay well for it . They even prefer it natural , just cleaned up
good . These guys also have little interest in Gold On the Rock unless
it's a fairly nice specimen . Only been a few pieces of my GOR I've shown
them that they didn't say " might as well crush and extract that " .

Anyhow ............ I use simple tools now days . Got rid of my 3" dredge
several years ago for various reasons . Best gold ain't in the water anyway .
Most sophisticated and expensive piece of equipment in my arsenal
now days is a 2006 BH Time Ranger ( $ 484.00 when I bought it ) but
I don't use it very often , just certain situations . Works better than
it's ever got credit for in the MD world . I also still use my ball mills on
occasion . Then , a couple of A52's and some home made extensions
along with different bedding and flow set up's . I still like to get in the
water now and then in the summer but I don't hump the homemade
sluice stuff for that . Just the A52's . Of course I use different bedding
materials and flow set up's in the field like everybody else does .
Just depends on what your up against I guess .

I haul as much as I can home to work for the obvious reasons . I guess
about the only use I have for a gold prospecting supply place currently
is for my Trinity pans and some screens . I could make the screens
too but I don't mind buying them . They are good quality , stack easy
and sit the ole 5 gal. in good order . Most stuff I use can be bought
at hardware stores , Wallyworld ( cotton sheets ) , Harbor freight ,
Co-Ops , tractor supply outfits , on line ... etc. Oh yea , I put the
ole brain to work on that pic thing . Turns out the original Tnet processed
IMG size codes from Photobucket different than this new Tnet .
Go figure . Hope you continue to pile the shine .
Luck to Ya Nick .

That depends on where you are really. Some states it is more common to find flour or flake gold.....the nugget is the thing of dreams so I would use a small screen and scan your tailings for gems and any nuggets if they are to be.

Who is Gold Hog as I have never seen any of his posts?
Don't matter much, if he is a friend of Hoser then he is a friend of mine.

Did you happen to get a beach permit ?
Last year I tried for 2 weeks to get an official permit and
several in the system said to just do it and nobody cared.
This was for Mouth of Nehalem and only for 2 weeks I finally got official permit.
Bunch of crap.
What happened to Oregon Gold Hunters ?

Where I go most of the time I get at least 1-3 0.3-0.6 gram nuggets and a lot of smaller flakes too. I'm in Northern California btw. I'll go take a pic of some of my gold and post it.
