I got a solid quarter signal at 3 inches I was for sure I was going to bring up a silver quarter... but at 3 inches there was no quarter it was deeper... so I kept digging... knowing it was no longer a quarter I had to see what it was... now about this time I hit it and you can see the results... and I then assumed it was a can... but as any good hunter you just have to get it out and see what it is... so I keep digging... and because I think its a can I hit it again and again... I still can't get it out... so i widen the hole which I should of in the first place.... I get it out of the ground and this is what I got... its 4 inches by 4 inches made of lead and covered by copper... before you all make me feel bad about my crummy digging habits I already do... but in my defense I thought it was a can. dang I wish was face down...

Clean it and repair it. It's cool either way. Maybe a pencil rubbing of the small cursive text would make it readable, it has "sword" I think, and "flesh" that I can make out.

I used Photo Impact Pro, but Paint should be able to do it also. I think it is a printing surface from maybe a wooden printing block too. Are there any small nail holes you can see?

Maybe some talc brushed lightly on the object will bring out the small writing details.

I just checked Paint in Windows, it will flip the image. Use flip/rotate under Image on the menu.

Along the top it says "_________ Presenting Filmdom's Pretties" or "Prettiest"

If I read it right it says "Bathing Beauties Appearing in Person Dog Days" It is a printing plate and would have been attached to wood or some other material. Nice find. Devonrex

Neat find my friend..Really cool.. Everybody hits targets now and then I dont care who they are..There are a million reasons why it can, and does happen..
I gashed a 1945 d walking liberty half during the last week in Feburary..It was pin pointing next to a sidewalk, so I dug off a few extra inches and wham :BangHead: dont really know how it happened, but it did..

Shake it off, still a nice piece..

I still think it's a great find. Trust me, if I was digging that and thought it was another can it would have been wadded up into ball and shreaded from prying it out of the hole.

Very nice find! Seriously, take a brass brush, and go at it! The plates I've dug can withstand some heavy scrapping, and you'll probably get most of that gash out.
If worried, try a test area, but believe me, those plates are a hardy bunch.
Kudos!
Carl
