Found one this past weekend, I dug it and threw it in my pouch without really looking at it. When I got home I see what it is now.

What are suggestions of what to do with it? The most chosen will be what gets done
1. Put it back in the ocean (for someone else to dig up?)
2. Put it in the stainless scrap bucket (Is this ethical?)
3. Return it to the company name on the tag
Thanks
Jon

If it was the wish of the deceased to be placed there (I was never involved in a ceremony with ashes at sea so I am not sure tags are suppose to go with the ashes) I would put it back. If the next person finds it, He or she would have the same option.

I say toss it back.

Most people do not know the tag is in there.

I have found several on land, usually under really nice trees, as I would assume that it had some sort of meaning to the family or individual...
I usually try and return them, but sometimes hard to remember. handed 1 back to the family and it brought tears... so I say what ever you think might be best

Tie a heavy lead fishing weight to it before you chuck it back into the ocean. It'll help it from washing back onto the shore for someone else to find. Also, throw it off of a pier if there is one in the area to get it out a little farther.

So-o-o-o, I guess my idea of making it into an ash tray isn't going to fly? :dontknow:

:laughing7: this one made me laugh.

I like the idea about the fishing weight. I have a lot of sputnicks, I'll attach it to one and toss it way out. It should get buried with that.

I found one before. Didn't realize until I got home. Took a couple months but it went back where it was found.

Usually you take them out, I did with both my parents...but some people don't or they aren't aware of the tag.

Just put it back.
