Up here in Michigan really old coins are not that common, so my best finds of 2012 was an 1847 Large Cent in beautiful condition, and an 1865 2 cent piece in really nice condition.

(its the unifaced gold coin in the above link)
The one that means the most to me, it terms of my Fav, not the most valueable, is my oldest coin ever:

Gold Stater of Ambiani tribe circa 55-52BC (its a French import used during the Gallic Wars to pay mercenaries to fight Julius Caesar)

This coin is the same type of coin my Dad got 3-4 years ago, so we are equal in our oldest coin record!

Here is how I found it:

(I will never forget stamping on the frozen mud & looking down to see that pony!)

I guess I'd have to go with my sterling handled bottle opener.

Thats interesting, do you think it was modified, as the handle looks like it was off a ladies dresser, ie comb, brush etc..

Crusader,

I don't believe so....the other side has a stamp Birks sterling.....and one of our research whizzes on the Canadian forum
tracked it down to early 1900's...Birks are a high end jewelry store in Montreal and have been around since the early
1800's.....it was found at the base of an old tree in a nearby park....I suspect someone was having a picnic and lost their church key....lol.

None of that discounts it being an original handle from the above research & then it broke (whatever was on the end, lots of options), & the opener added.

I really just started in October. I found this sterling silver Reed and Barton butter knife in my mother in laws yard on Christmas Eve. It wasn't hers. The house was built in 1939.
