My guess would be dryer coin. The edge rattled around and got compressed.

Not as much as finding silver but, I do enjoy finding things like this.

Could be also that someone was spooning the coin in order to make a ring...thats how to start one...

Could have spent some time in a casino as well. Going through the rollers in the slot machines over and over again would do that I'd think.
