Not a wood grain based on other examples on the web, but
maybe he/she's thinking it's a double-die stamp?

Edge is most definitely rolled.

Wood Grain effect due to improper mixing of the composition, along with damage and appears to have been struck with too little striking pressure or with a Die with severe wear.

looks like a penny that at one time had heavy corrosion then was cleaned

That is okay! It takes many, many years to learn many of the terms and information just in the amateur coin collecting world and a whole lot longer when you expand into Error and Variety Coins, then Type Coins, then Series within each denomination. Heck, I have been collecting, researching, attributing, buying and selling coins for some 45 years now and I still get some of the terms wrong.
