so today went through 1 nickel box and 2 cent boxes.

Nickel box produced:

52 pre 1960 nickels
1 1936 buffalo
1 1945 S war nickel
1 1943 P war nickel
1 1938 P jefferson nickel in amazingly sharp condition 4 or 5 steps visable on back. best i've seen yet
1 1957 Greek 1 drachma...
All in all i loved the box

2 Cent boxes both with 4438 code on top... they were awesome

total of 84 wheat cents combined from both boxes
only downside was most were 1940's and 1950's
5 pre 1940 wheats oldest 1935x2
there were 10 really shiny 1968-1960 memorials
1 1980 bermuda cent
2 king george 6th canadian cents 1947 and 1950

I hope for this luck to extend through the rest of the week

Happy Huntin guys
Alex& Cassie

Re: wheaty boxes

some great boxes

I literally feel like a kid in a candy store when I'm searching a good box of nickels or cents and sorting out all the different keepers.

keep on searchin'

great pics & that '38 Jefferson is really nice

I separate the red '60's memorials too. I seem to find at least a few of those in every box too. Some of the ones you found look really red. I also separate the S mint '68 - '74 memorials. I'm still not exactly sure how to tell a '70S large date from a '70S small date.

Some great boxes you found - hope you find some more like 'em. HH!

thanks man i try to keep all the nice lookin ones hopin one day they'll be worth a little more then what i paid for them... hahhaha a penny.

i was hopin someone would tell me a somewhat grade on the 38 but i realised its still a little dirty some places but i didnt wana clean it yet.

yeah im not messin with the s mint marks any more other then if they're in nice condition... my box of them got so full i'd have tens of thousands of them.

happy huntin guys.

I would guess the '38 nickel is around XF grade. The hairline and the cheekbone looks clear and defined and the triangle under the dome looks clear and complete. And you said you can make out most of the steps which is good so I would think at least XF grade. Very nice looking coin - esp for a '38 found in circulation in 2011 .

That coin has likely been in someone's collection for a while since it's in such nice shape. The '50D I found last month is in similar condition to your '38 and I know that coin must have come from someone's collection because there is no way that coin has been in circulation for 60 years - thankfully for me. :)

I've been thinking I might bring my F '99 Morgan dollar, VF+/XF '46S WL & VF+/XF '50D nickel (all of which I now have in 2 x 2's) with me the next time I go to the coin store and ask the owner what he thinks about the grade & value of the coins & then ask him if he would believe I found all 3 coins in circulation this year. I'm not sure he would believe me. I still sometimes can hardly believe I actually found those coins myself. :)

Alex, I left my opinion in the Coins forum on TNET that you posted earlier. A very nice find, and do not clean it. You will only detract from an already sweet find.

The easiest way is to focus on the inside curve of the 9. Curve in - Small Date; Curve down - Large Date. Here is more information - http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html
