TH, You misunderstand. I can see what you thought I meant. I mean, when did The TNet begin (as metaldetecting.com)? When did metaldetecting.com become TNet? Have I said it right, this time? ╦╦Ç

I remember forum posts indicating "the new owners of metaldetecting.com" changing the format, etc. The current homepage here indicates that Treasurenet.com is the original treasure hunting website AND a little further down it calls metal detecting the original forum. It is my belief, based on my memory, that TNet evolved from metaldetecting.com. I remember having to "re-register for the new owners". There HAS to be others here that go back that far and remember. ╦╦Ç

Terry, perhaps your thinking about one of the first category boards on T-net?I'm listed as joining in July of 2004,but was on earlier under either another name or password and had to reup a few times due to computor glitches.

Interesting responses! It is very possible that I AM confusing the two as one. People my age have actually been known to "mis-remember" things. It is possible that I joined TNet TWICE because of my lapse of membership during the period that would cover the change in ownership. ╦╦Ç

TreasureNet was started in 1995 and is the 1st Treasure hunting website ever on the net. It was started by Marc. Dates are off because he rebuilt it couple times.

The oldest link I have ever been able to find is November of 1996. I know Marc told me he started TreasureNet in late 1995 https://web.archive.org/web/19961116054310/http://www.treasurenet.com:80/

The same background for 22 years and it still looks pretty modern. :icon_thumright:

there were at least 2 Sign ups under Marc. Maybe 3 as you said age plays allot in memory.

I do know at one point the Site Crashed & allot was lost.

There was also a point when Rules were Created everyone was expected to agree to the Rules in order to Remain a Member. This may or may not be causing sign-up memory confusion.

I do not believe the New owners required we re-sign-up

Hey Dave! Your post kind of tells me that I may have experienced similar. Possible I had to re-register during one of the "re-builds" of TNet ..... and that metal detecting was Tnet's first forum. (we'll get it worked out!) ╦╦Ç

Also sign-up was not needed on the very 1st TreasureNet.

You would make a Post. Put in a Name
and an Email address . Fake email addresses like [email protected] and [email protected] worked.

I'm sure if I realized that, trolls did also and probably
used a different name & email every time they came in.
