Found this confederate cast block i button metal detecting in the Atlanta campaign area. Dug with permission. Found right behind where The confederates placed the cannons.
When were these confederate cast block i buttons manufactured in the Atlanta campaign? The Confederates positioned*artillery*of Bates' Division,*Hardee's*Corps Artillery, 5th Company of*Washington Artillery*of*Louisiana, and Lt. R. T. Beauregard's*South Carolina*Battery*were there where i found the button and i guess the army of Tennessee. They were shooting where i found the button at sherman. And his troops. It's the standard cast block "I", not the wider specific Tennessee variant. Manufactured 1861 to not later than early 1865. I believe they were made in numerous places. The Army of Tennessee used them a lot, we occasionally find one in Virginia or Maryland. The wider "I" is harder to get.
