Your own back yard may be good as are beaches and parks and school yards. places near drinking water and old mail box area are good too.

Hi Elite, do you have that many sites to choose from? If you do count yourslelf as lucky. Around me Ive got parks, playgrounds, some fields. Been at it six months and all i can find is clad.fake jewelry, few rings not worth much, I still enjoy the hobby. You got beeches, volleyball courts, the woods (watch for hunters!!) anywhere they are diggin up a sidewalk or street. Louisiana should have a lot of history, go to the library and look up the history of some nearby town. I have done this and it has yet to pay off with finds but it can be very interesting. Goodluck and happy hunting

Elite,

20 years of detecting....almost exclusively public parks, school yards and sports fields even though these sites have been picked over by me and others...I can still squeeze quite a few keepers every year for my troubles as well as the usual clad and odds and ends.

If you're looking for the older finds....head to the older parts of town where you live or go to nearby towns that have some age.....the sites are out there....just got to sniff them out..

Regards + HH

I have been metal detecting for a while know and having trouble choosing where to hunt any advice? :bom:

If you are looking in local playgrounds or parks, you are looking in the same place as everybody else since 1980. You need to start trying to research places people gathered in the PAST (1870 - 1950). You need to start thinking outside the box, and be prepared to do a little work with your head, not just your machine. Good Luck!

Elite,

One clue is the size of the trees at urban green spaces....the bigger the better....also ask the old timers in your area where they used to play and hang out when they were young....could be an old picnic site, swimming hole, etc...some of these
places may not even be used for that purpose anymore....increases your chances for older finds.
