I've just destroyed my mini shovel and am in the market for a good field digger. I hunt through some tough conditions, roots, rocks, and mud, lots of mud. I don't particularly want an extremely long handle, but I'm definitely not going to be digging 9 inch targets in the filed with my lesche or raptor. So Im asking the experts. I like to throw my digger over my shoulder and like something I can kick into the ground. Please tell me whats awesome and why. Thanks in advance!

Has anybody used the Grave Digger Nemesis? Looks like a good one.

Do you find the 9" blade to be too long? I do like the built in bottle openers though. Thats some ingenuity.

Get the Grave Digger Nemesis and the Sidekick digger!! :skullflag:

Definitely strongly considering the nemesis? Looks well made for sure, and i like the fact its a small American business. You don't find the blade too long eh? I hardly ever hunt parks anymore and I have a raptor 31 and a lesche so I'm set on the smalls.

The Nemesis never goes to a public park, just the Sidekick. For farm fields, woods, open lots, the Nemesis can't be beat! You'll never kill it. :skullflag:

I have the Nemesis as well, one very well made tool. Doubt it could be damaged being used as a shovel. Although I don't recommend it probably could be a pry bar and survive.

It's a recent purchase, but I'm liking my predator shovel I just got. Only time will tell if i can manage to break this one too.

I purchased one of these this year. I was a little surprised at the weight when I received it but I just drag it behind me when I am detecting. As I have used it, I am pleasantly surprised with how well it slices through roots and how well constructed it is. For field or woods hunting, I believe it is the best value for the price.

Love the nemesis. Cuts like a champ. It's a bit heavy, but I believe it will last. Also if you run into a wild boar, you're armed!

If you want lighter weight, how about the Root Slayer Nomad? It has a shorter length, somewhat smaller blade than the standard Root Slayer, and the Amazon reviews on it are great. It's also only $39.00
I don't have one myself, but I'm seriously considering it for my one and only MD shovel. My only caveat is that the end cap on the Nomad is neither ring, D-ring, Tee, or straight ended. It has a triangular end grip with a hole in the middle. I wonder if it can be easily dragged behind when walking, like a D-ring can... I guess I could put a piece of rope through the hole in the handle, but I wonder if it will get in the way and cause blisters when digging...

I use the root slayer nomad. I don't really care for the end on the handle but it's not a deal killer either. I only use it for in fields. I put a finger in the hole and drag it behind me. I love the blade designs, weight, and size. It seems well made.

Cheers,
Ken

When I'm in a farm field this is my "weapon of choice": Kobalt long-handle wooden trenching spade (Item # 863592 Model # TRS-4CF-K34720) Lowes $ 27.98) The model here is for the fiberglass one, my handle is wooden; easy to dig, light (carry draped over my shoulder) and you can cut a very neat plug if necessary. I have used this model for the last five years.

For parks, private lawns or sensitive places, I use the Raptor 25C hand digger.
