This might sound of beat.. and it's probably too late.
But if you ask me.. the best thing anyone can do is stop bringing it to the table for all these people to have to deal with... they will deal with it by doing their best to make it go away... and we are not going to like how they do that.
If everyone would just go about their business and be cordial and respectful to the land and all of its citizens these lawmakers would be off doing other things.
Continuously being a squeaky wheel is definitely not going to help anything and has caused a lot of this.
Just my opinion.
By far the biggest threat to detecting is people asking if they are allowed to detect...keep asking and you will eventually get a NO...the day is coming when you will see "No digging in the water" signs at the beach...the more you ask, the faster you will see them.

You're exactly right.
But it's okay to dump millions of tons of sand on beaches where sea turtles have been nesting for centuries and must return to the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs..
And that same sand washes out over what's left of the nearshore reefs and destroys them pretty handily.

The government can do all the damage they want but you take one shovel full, say from a wetland, and they will make an example out of you.

bottom line THE WAY ITS WRITTEN -- since metal detectors detect metal items * in the water (and such items might be a valuable historic item ) the use of detectors in the water is BANNED --UNLESS YOU GET PERMITS --since the state of Florida OWNS EVERYTHING IN THE WATER --PEROID --NO HUNTING FOR VALUIBLE "HISTORICAL ITEMS" IN THE WATER , 3RD DEGREE FELONY--IE THEIR SAYING BASICALLY ---STAY OUT OF THE WATER WHEN DETECTING --STAY ON THE BEACH--FROM WATERLINE UP TO THE DUNE FOOT

SO MUCH FOR WADING AND SHALLOW WATER HUNTING ALONG THE BEACH --LEGALLY SPEAKING THAT IS --WHILE THEY MOST LIKELY WILL NOT ENFORCE IT --MAKE A "GREAT FIND" AND LET ANYONE "OFFICAL" FIND OUT AND SEE WHAT OCCURS AS THE STATE MAKES A "GRAB" FOR YOUR GOODS --VIA COUGH IT UP OR PAY A HUGE FINE AND GO TO JAIL. --OR BOTH.
