If you Google "who determines price of gasoline" you will get a lot of results. Supply and demand, taxes, trends and the futures market, natural disasters, oil company financial planners, OPEC...not any one person or even one group.

I have nothing really to back this up, but I believe that the futures market makes up a big part of the swing in gas prices. Some of these traders made a fortune off of our misery last year!!!

+1

a bump in price could be legislature in action, a broker, OPEC, a sovereign prince or Chavez.

Lots of things.
Wish there was someone.
Then we could flatten him like a bug!

After what the Republicans in the Bush administration let the big oil companies
do to the price of a barrel of oil. I don't understand how you can complain about the Dems
or the Obama admin. after just a few months. The Bush family get alot of their money from
the oil industry. They were happy campers for awhile. The price of oil didn't lower until the
Republicans new they were close to losing the Presidential election.

No, the oil price crashed when the economy went down the crapper. The two always hold hands on the way up the hill, and on the way down. The Bush family certainly does make money from oil. Are you saying though that the Bush family controls the world oil market? If so, wouldn't they still be doing it? President Bush wasn't wearing a crown when he was President, even though many thought he would like to. I think there is a lott of hostility towards a President that did things a lott better than he was given credit for.

No. What I meant was that the big oil companies control the oil prices
which the government can regulate if they want to. They did it with milk
a few years ago when the dairys were price gouging. They could have
done it with oil but Bush wasn't going to do that. I wouldn't give him credit
for what he let the oil companies and the banking industry do to this
country so they could make a quik buck.

The price of gas didn't jump 3 dollars per gallon during the Clinton
admin. And it wasn't Clinton who went on national television telling
us how there are more 1st. time home buyers now than any other time
in history. When all
along the banking industry (republican run) was giving out loans to
people who couldn't afford them.

well oil is only around $60.00

Last year Oil hit $140... before we say $4.00 per Gallon

Average Price right now is $3.20 per Gallon.

Double oil to $120.00

And that works to

$6.40 per Gallon

and at $120 Oil won't even be at Record Highs.

WHAT THE MARKET WILL BEAR. That is what drives the cost of almost everything. Did you forget already the four dollar gallon? The cost dropped quick when no-one bought it then. Driving season is starting. Everyone is trying to get their slice before we stop buying. And that's that.

Do the farmers controll the price of wheat? Do miners control the price of gold? Do sheep herders control the price of wool? I think your hate of the former president has clouded your judgement.

There's plenty of petroleum info over at TheOilDrum.com where every aspect of the subject is discussed in great detail by a large number of very knowledgeable people... if you are interested.

Bwarney Fwank is and was the head of the U.S. banking Committee since the early 90's. It was him plus the dems who had a 3 to 2 majority on this board who pushed through legislation that required Mortgage lenders to make loans to under privileged (Read as NO credit) borrowers. as well as the to poor to afford a loan at any interest rate.
