Why are you keeping NIFC non silver halves?

Ok, I'd been pulling the 2000s out and keeping them aside along with maybe 10 or so proofs. Now I've got about $50-60 worth of non silver coins just sitting here. It hit me this morning that I am 100% in this for this silver, I could care less about any other coins. I'm not wasting time looking for errors no matter how valuable they may be...

So Monday I'm going to deposit 5 Rolls of NIFC halves. I am considering depositing them in a Chase that I know gets hit by a LOT of people asking for halves. I was just going to throw them in a TD coin machine, but I figure this will at least make someone happy...

I think some may keep such NIFCs because it makes an otherwise skunk box of halves seem less like a skunk box.

I went through that phase for a while, then decided that nobody locally was going to pay me more than 50 cents for an NIFC so I threw them back into the wild.

I still do save an occasional proof if it is in perfect shape, otherwise it goes back.

I've found more NIFC's than ANYTHING...got a bunch, and the only reason I am sitting on them is for the kids. Either they will be worth something one day, or the kids will get them as allowance or rewards or something....I've not found nor been TOLD of any other value they hold.

....I'm still real new to this too however... ;D

for 02-07 and 2010 I saved the best 10 of each year and mintmark, so one roll per year. 08 and 09 I am saving every one I can find. Mintage numbers are low. Do you ever plan on filling folders etc? You want to pull each year's NIFC while they are fresh, so they look sharp in the books.

Do you need to save every NIFC I dont think so but it would be foolish to spend time hunting and not select the best of each of these years and keep them. I find it hard to believe people do this for just silver, I mean, you have to have a bit of the collector in you to stick with it year after year...

Hmmm I pulled over 3 rolls of '09s out of 1 box...

I have no plans of filling folders. My only plan all along has been trading up to .999, I just seem to have gotten caught up in everyone posting about the NIFCs.

I only keep NIFCs if they're in the mint roll, and then only to sell them to a coin shop. I don't open the rolls, there ain't any silver in them, and once opened their resale value drops like a rock. I still cna't wrap my mind around someone paying $30+ for $10 worth of coin, then it gets deposited in a bank. I'm doing good if I can get $5 over face per unopened roll.

For those that are in it for the silver, don't ignore the NIFC and BU halves. Set them aside and fill up a book. I buy old coin albums from dealers, some are given to me. I fill them with clad and consign them at auction. The locals see the tattered book with bright shiny clad and go nuts. Many of times, I net $40 profit per book with about $10 in face. Easy money. Turn that cash into silver and you have "earned" free silver.

Here's the NIFC mintages (still a lot less than the usual mintages):

2002 3.1M 2.5M

2004 2.9M 2.9M
2005 3.8M 3.5M

2011 1.75M 1.7M

Anyone have any reason why some are produced more at one mint than the other? Even though these are not meant to be circulated? I'm guessing that some are stored for future circulation if neccessary?

I kept one of each year and mint for my collection, and I have 2 rolls full of really nice BU NIFC mixed dates to hang on to. I'm also saving a roll for my daughter, I think in years down the road they will be worth a nice premium. They have very low mintage, so someday it'll be worth it. . I toss all of the ones I find now back, I already have enough of them.
