Will somebody please email me when these stupid incessant pop-up ads are gone!!!

Laptop and they are getting super old, thought it might have been just my laptop but glad to hear that I am not the only one getting these stupid pop ups

I agree getting worse. Been popping up for over a month now. Some take up one third of the page on my lpad.

Never had one. I'm running Win-10, Ad-blocker and Firefox.

^^^ same as above^^^

For 12 years I have enjoyed this site, but now it is just a pain in the @$$ with all the pop-ups.

As DizzyDigger said run a Win-10 add blocker. My current blocked on Tnet today is (5) my grand total blocked on my PC is 750,075K.

I am also running Win-10, Firefox and ad-blocker. I just opened this page and have one ad already blocked. I have never had one pop up on this site.

I have concluded that this pop up problem must be unique to Firefox. Using Safari now on this site, and don't see any pop-ups yet.

Firefox is the cure

Not for me .. I am running Safari now for this website, with no problems. I switched back to Firefox and the curse came back, and I have ad blockers on both.

I use Purify content blocker on Safari (iOS).
Solved all the problems I was having with "You've Been Selected..." pop ups and all others.

I'm running a Dell with Firefox/Google with Ad blockers and I get the additional narrow banner under the first thread or post but no pop-ups.

Don't get them at home with Safari on my iMac.

this thread is a hoot, everyone has a different solution
but no fix to the source of the difficulties, ok
the patch is ad blocker, browser does not matter (yandex here)

CharlieP I get nothing, which ad blocker do you have ?
(I have AdGuard AdBlocker - free)

Each browser has different flavors of blocker software built in. So each person using different browsers will get different levels of pop up adds depending on how effective the built in software is.

For example on Apple mobile products, Safari has a built "Block Pop Ups" setting.
It stops some of the pop ups..but not all of them.
Some people may have that turned on..others not.
In order to block all of them, you need to install a third party content blocker.

Certain websites that rely heavily on adds will detect this software and trigger a window to pop up, which blocks the page content (you want to see) from displaying. News sites are the ones I experience this most.
The work around is to click on the "Reader View" link in the left hand side of the address bar.
This will allow you to read the article. Sometimes you need to be quick about doing this.

EDIT: This site relies upon adds for revenue so we really shouldn't be using add blockers or content blockers..however the site is not even useable without doing so, so it's a catch 22 situation.

and this is the crux of the dilemma
there are a number of interacting variables, and viewer comfort is not getting much love
