Worked rock

Found this at my job site this morning. It’s been struck. Is it part of a scraper or knife? It looks to large to been a point but I’m still learning

Could be something but whatever it was going to be by the 1st picture it doesn’t look like it got finished. I find rocks with some flakes removed I call them test rocks. They would take a few wacks and if it wasn’t any good for them then they would toss it and start over.

I keep them if they are interesting to me. Colorful is always a good reason

But was it worked and struck, I got people saying it’s just natural

Interesting rock. It could be a worked rock, but then, natural rocks do come in all shapes, sizes, and show all kinds of faces that can fool the hopeful. My guess is just an unusual natural rock. Still a cool looking one to keep in a collection.

If you have a local college nearby, see if they have a geology department, or archeology department. I'm sure they'll give you a definitive answer.

Different places have different processes working on artifacts in the ground so it may mean nothing but the patina bothers me. The time it takes to form a cortex is usually beyond the scope of native Americans, it just doesn’t look fresh enough… but like I said may just be processes at work that i don’t see where I hunt
