Wow!! What a way to end the year!! Colonial Silver and 1861 "Fat Boy"
Got out this morning to a place I have detected many times before and within one minute I got a broken signal that I thought for sure was a shotgun shell. I am glad I was wrong, it was an 1861 "Fat Boy" Indian Head Cent! My first in a long time! I don't know how I missed this on previous outings!!
A while later I dug the round object, which could be anything. Maybe part of a British uniform belt plate? I can only wish, lol!
The kicker of the day was a broken deep signal that was iffy enough to dig. It took quite a while to find this thin silver object. It looks like a coin or more likely part of a button with an image of Wm III (?). It is 19mm, but only weighs 8.6 grains! Can someone help ID this? Is it a coin or a silver button? I have never heard of hammered coins being found here, other than cobs.
I couldn't ask for a better way to end 2008!!!
Any help with the ID?
