My guess: Misspelling of Newendam; more likely Nieuwendam as being Dutch.

The Newendam on your map is actually the "Nieuwendam", a 210 ton Yacht operated by the Dutch East India Company. It was lost in a navigation accident in 1670 while carrying a cargo of sappanwood which was a type of wood that was used to make red dye. The cargo and crew were all saved.
