Well I the Pleasure of metal detecting with NM Dan and gentlemen we met in old mesilla canal so we invited him to the WW1 Training camp, Jack is his name he was passing through. Well it it was slow going for me , but Jack found a nice 1911 barber dime and buttons and Dog tag, NM Dan found a few relics and found this dog tag 20171119_173745.jpg 20171119_173756.jpg 20171119_173805.jpg 20171119_174005.jpg

Nice work. A dog tag from the Mexican border has been on my bucket list for a very long time.

Can you make out a name or unit. If you can there is a lot more history there that you might not know already. ANd Im sure there are plenty of us here on T-net that would like to hear the back story on this piece.

There could be. They built training camps all of the USA for both World War I and World War II. Then you have all of our regular military installations, POW camps, border camps built for fighting Mexicans, and other camps built to protect the mining camps. There are also a lot of WW1 Army camp sites here in AZ on the old ranches near the border, which were used while the soldiers were out on patrol and away from their base camp. There really is lots of World War I activity that took place within our own border.
