WW2 Mess Knife

Out today and found a grungy knife— so i places in my recycle bag. Got home and it cleaned up nice.



5th knife i found in nice condition
2 swiss army knives
1 titanium gerber
1 kanto pocket knife
and now this

very nice, all my knife finds have been of the super toasted kind. my wife did find one of those multi-tools that was still in decent shape. the gerber sounded like a good find

Nice find. Probably lost by some boy whose father carried it all across Europe. My old neighborhood is probably littered with the combat gear my friends and I used to play with in the woods: helmets, canteens, muset bags, web belts, etc. I wish I had that stuff now, not for the monetary value but for the connection to my parents. My Mom was a WAC in the Pacific with MacArthur. She had a lot of field gear, just like the men were issued. Much of it had to be written off as "combat loss" after my friends and I were done playing with it. Funny, 25 years or so later a lot of my gear went missing after my own sons played out in the woods with it. I'm sure the cycle will continue.
