So, I went to a couple yard sales the other day and managed to get these two books at one of the sales. the rations book I like the best because I like world war 2 memoribilia but the stamps I have no information for. The ration bokk I have the info for the person using the ration book as per the cover of the book, and the stamp collection has more pages and stamps to it, I just dont want to post too many pictures in my first post, but will put up the other pics if requested.

Indianajoe,
Welcome to Treasure Net !!

I recognize that stamp collection as coming from a typical book of stamps that would be sent to prospective buyers "ON APPROVAL". The buyer would detach the stamp(s) he/she wanted and return the booklet to the seller. The buyer would then include coins, a check or whatever, to cover the cost of the stamps kept. The price of each stamp (in cents) was below each stamp. Apparently, either the past owner of your stamp book was either the seller or the buyer who bought the entire book.

Would you think there may be some value to it now? Most of these stamps seem to be from the early 1900s to the late 1930s early 1940s

Honestly, I don't think that collection has appreciated much. The majority, if not all, seem to be from Australia or New Zealand--and used, versus in mint condition. Second, they've been 'hinged' to the booklet (another 'no-no' for collectors today). Third, the market for postage stamps, in general, has waned in recent years. Coin collecting and video games have replaced stamp collecting. Still, there is a market, but it will be thin, and will take some research to find.
You may wish to sample current values of some of your stamps on Ebay (the most costly as shown in the book) and see what buyers are willing to pay today.

It appears that the stamps in the approval book are all from the British Commonwealth.

Your best bet is to get the Scott's catalogs from your local library. Scott's is the authority with stamp collectors. Look up the stamps on ebay using the Scott number, and then check ebay's completed listings.

I just looked up the Newfoundland 20 cent gray that can be seen on the first picture. That appears to be Scott number 181. Your stamp appears to be Mint Hinged which does affect the value.

Ok, well I will go to my library tomorrow and see if I can find a relevant book to help me out with this. Honestly even if it does not get me a huge resale I only have a buck a piece invested in both the ration book and stamp book so im not to worried about it. Thank you all for the replies :)

You can save a little gasoline and your time...most libraries have their entire catalog on the web.

BTW, where in Indiana are you?
