Not sure which of the last 3 outings I found this at. Just got around to looking at it tonight and WOW. Some feedback on this wonderful artifact would be nice. This is what I got so far.

-1) - Mle.1892 Musette (bread bag):

The Musette bags are made of a linen canvas that can range in color from tan to brown -- Green French bread bags were post-war issue, so we don't use them. The Musette was closed secure with two buttons, marked Équipements Militaires -- soldiers often carried two of these when going to the front.

-The mobilization during August 1914, took the French Army 'by surprise' as they were still dressed in the colorful, but unsuitable uniforms which dated from 70 years before.
A number of typical uniform characteristics are described below :

-The trousers used in 1914 were adopted on March, 29 th, 1867. They were modified in 1893 and 1897. The trousers have two side pockets. Since 1867, the buttons evolved as follows

1867 : made from bone, black

1885 : 4 holes, zinc

1893 : zinc, with subscription : 'équipements militaires' (transl. military equipment)
