I am a newby, so forgive my ignorance. Is this the jist? Go to the bank, buy rolls of coins, and hope that within those rolls are silver, etc?
Call me uninformed , but why don't the banks check this out? Is it because they pay bank tellers sooo much money there is no need?

Yes just go to the bank buy as many rolls as you can and hope for the best. Some tellers do search the coins.

And also, when you're done searching through the rolls, return them to a DIFFERENT bank. If you return coins to the same bank that you got it from, they're going to get mad.

Banks are not in the business to search coins for goodies, although lots of tellers do.
