Nice find man! My first silver this yr was a 1945 also, but a merc. Was amongst the trees at the back of my old elementary school. Were you in a park or school?

Nope I was in my parents yard which I have been over a dozen times. It's crazy how no matter how many time you cover a yard it can still produce. It stood out like a soar thumb. There's no way I would have missed that signal. It's just plain weird.

Wow! Yeah totally true. You never know what you can still pull out of a hunted area. What machine were you using?

Maybe previously when you hunted that spot the ground was more dry and this time a bit more damp and your detector picked it up easier.

Great find bmelvin. I'm still searching for my first silver. A walker would do nicely.

That's a pretty nice find for first silver! It's actually a Walking Liberty Half. A Standing Liberty is a quarter made between 1916 and 1930 inclusive. Hope you find more!
